When this ship's a-rocking'...
It's not the newlyweds causing the ship to rock!!! As we move further down the coast we've been in more severe swells and in turn, this ship is making even those with the strongest sea legs feel less than awesome. Last night it was tough to sleep through all the bumps and tossing around. Our captain announced this morning that we will miss our call to New York City due to the damage from the storm (man, I'm starting to hate his announcements!). Instead we will be going to St. John New Brunswick, wherever that is. Today we made a call to Halifax, Nova Scotia and we agreed it has been our favorite port besides Quebec so far. I had pre-reserved a car for us and Enterprise gave us a Dodge Dart to use, which being the oh-so-mature person I am, I promptly named the Dodge Fart! The fart got us to Peggy's Cove to see a lighthouse. This was inspired by my Grandma telling me about the lighthouse after one of her cruises over 20 years ago. In fact she still has a lighthouse magnet on her fridge from it. (check it out next time you're there and ask her about it). The sea near the lighthouse was angry today, my friends. (I've always wanted to say that.) In the pictures below you'll see the fishing village of Peggy's Cove, complete with lobster traps stacked high. We also saw a warning sign that reminded us of our last trip to Hawaii. After we had seen as much lighthouse as we could take, we rode the fart to another commercial fishing village called fisherman's cove (these Canadians think of the cleverest names!) The area is known for their brightly colored pier area, and for their lobster. We set off in search for a lobster lunch but the first lobster place told us they only had live lobsters. As much as I wanted a new "pet" I knew we wouldn't clear customs so we settled on lobster rolls from a divey-looking place. We both thought they were pretty good but admittedly have nothing to compare it to so for all I know, it could have been crap. We looked around, did a little shopping, and returned the Fart to its home before going back to the port. Tonight is looking like its going to be a skip dinner, eat pizza on the deck kind of night. By the way, remember when I said we were going to watch old people in a costume contest last night? Well guess what's funnier than old people wearing costumes? Old people wearing costumes while singing karaoke ! It's not nice to laugh so hard that you snort and almost pee your pants while someone is singing "New York, New York" so we left and made it an earlier night than expected. I don't know if karaoke is scheduled again but I'll be there for sure. Signing off for now from the angry seas.
